Studio Athenos is an architecture practice in Jaipur focused on healthcare environments across Rajasthan. For nearly two decades, the studio has worked on hospitals, LINAC facilities, institutional buildings, and residential architecture — with a particular interest in how design affects care, workflow, dignity, and long-term operational life.

Studio Athenos was founded in Jaipur in 2007 around a question that still drives the practice: why do some hospitals begin struggling operationally within a few years of opening while others continue working efficiently for decades? Rahul's position was that many of those problems begin in the drawing itself. Infection control, staff movement, waiting pressure, future expansion, and maintenance are architectural decisions made before construction starts.

Two decades of site realities have refined this into a strict clinical logic. A corridor width changes nursing movement. A misplaced staircase changes patient flow across departments. A diagnostic wing planned without expansion provision can restrict a hospital long after its equipment is upgraded. The building either reduces operational friction every day or quietly compounds it.

The practice today continues designing healthcare facilities across Rajasthan and Haryana while researching whether architectural decisions determine the financial viability of Tier 3 hospitals under government insurance frameworks. If the floor plan fails, management cannot fix it. A hospital is a machine that works silently.

The Practice
A hospital is a machine that works silently. Every line drawn in it carries consequence — for the patient who cannot leave, the doctor who cannot stop, and the family waiting outside.

The practice approaches healthcare architecture not as a building type but as an operational system. Infection control is a spatial decision. Workflow is a design decision. The long-term financial viability of a hospital in a Tier 3 city is an architectural decision.

These questions are not resolved after the design is complete. They are resolved — or not — in the brief, in the section, in the corridor width, in the relationship between the OT and the ICU.

Studio Athenos works at that level.

Design Start-Up

Because we build,
we also teach.

Studio Athenos runs a structured internship programme for architecture and interior design students. Three months or six. In-office, Jaipur. Students work on live hospital and residential projects. Each intern publishes a piece of work before leaving.

The programme is named Design Start-Up — for the ambition every designer carries to practice in their own name.
